Short stories Essay How did writers of nineteenth century short stories create and maintain a sense of mystery for their readers? Compare the different ways in which these mysteries are resolved.  In the nineteenth century more people started to read short stories. This was because in the nineteenth century working hours shortened which gave workers more leisure time. In the nineteenth century though there was no television or radio, the only entertainment that was easy to get hold of was reading. Short stories were more popular than novels because they were easier to read than novels. Napoleon and the Spectre  Napoleon and the Spectre was written by Charlotte Bron when she was 17 years old. It was one of her earliest pieces of writing. Charlotte Bront then went on to write several other famous books, a very well known one would be Jane Eyre. Charlotte Bron   died in 1855, one year after marrying.  Well, as I was saying, the Emperor got into bed. This first line of the story draws the reader in. It is as if the writer was in a middle of a conversation with the reader about the Emperor. In the third paragraph you get an inkling that the Spectre is about. The writer uses sound to show this. a slight rustling. Another clue that the Spectre is about is when the Emperors pillow goes hard for no reason. These two clues build up a climax in the story but is soon let down by the Emperor instead of exploring the noise just goes back to sleep. In the fourth paragraph there is another climax, a deep groan is heard from the closet in the Emperors room. The writer likes to use sound to show that the Spectre is about; this is good because it builds up good tension. It also builds up tension well because it is a deep groan which makes it sound painful, very ghost like, the writer is keeping to the idea of a classic unhappy ghost.  In the fifth paragraph we see our first use of speech which builds up a climax of terror in the Emperor. Whos there? Cried the Emperor, seizing his pistols. Speak or Ill blow your brains out. This shows that the Emperor is frightened and is trying to threaten the person away. The writer really builds up a dramatic climax with a short paragraph which gives suspense. Short, sharp laugh. This shows that the spectre is mocking the Emperors threat to try and intimidate him; he is unbothered by the Emperors attempt to scare him away. This is ironic because the Emperor is meant to be very high and powerful and not afraid of anything but is instead scared of a Spectre, this is also an anti-climax.  The writer rebuilds the tension once again but using the sense of sight to give the reader the feeling of the Spectres presence again. Which burned in a silver branch over the mantelpiece, was suddenly darkened. This shows that all the light has gone from the room making it completely dark, a good entrance for the Spectre. The reader than sees the Spectre for the first time, the writer also makes us feel sympathy for the Emperor as he is sweating with fear when he first sees the Spectre. The writer uses the sense of sight to give us an idea of the Spectre, A black, opaque shadow.  More speech is used as the Emperor tries to calm himself down and re-assure himself that he is imagining the Spectres presence. Pooh! exclaimed Napoleon, it was but an ocular delusion. In the next paragraph the reader hears the spectre speak for the first time, this creates a sense of horror. Was it? whispered a hollow voice, in deep mysterious tones, close to his ear. The writer has written that the Spectre has whispered close to the ear of the Emperor to cause more tension as well as the Spectre having a hollow voice. This paragraph really builds up the horror and tension in the Emperor and in the story.  The writer shows that the Spectre takes control when he uses the name of the Emperor. Follow me, Napoleon, and thou shalt see more. The spectre also uses the Emperors titles to mock him, Was it a delusion, Emperor of France?. This is ironic because the Spectre uses Napoleons titles as Emperor to make him feel small and intimidated, when titles are there to make you feel/seem big and important. After this paragraph the writer gives us the first description of the spectre. Charlotte Bronte has made the spectre as gruesome and as horrifying as possible, to add more tension and fear to the story.  Examples of the gory features of the Spectre would be The tongue protruded from between the teeth and the eyes all glazed and bloodshot started with frightful prominence from their sockets.  The emperor then cries out in shock, Mon Dieu! This is also the first time that the emperor has actually been presented with the appearance of the Spectre. The one lined paragraph, the apparition spoke not, but gliding forward beckoned Napoleon with uplifted finger to follow, is meant to be a very dramatic and frightening paragraph. The reader is picks up on this because the writer has not only set out this line to be a short paragraph which is dramatic but has made it so the Spectre actually says nothing; he speaks through his actions which build up tension to the story.

This is done in accordance with a need that manager should have a stable style of management ethics and work activities to be carried out while in the job and it is the duty of the management team to monitor in regular intervals of time to time A small introduction about Royal Mail Group: When it comes to post or parcel in the U. K nobody never forget the Royal mail. The royal mail is a parent company of the post office ltd United Kingdom. Royal mail is one of the important businesses in the U.K (postal business and parcel service all over the world). The royal mail takes a pride by producing a fact that they deliver millions of letters to appropriate address in the UK everyday thereby stabilizing the brand of Royal mail group. They employ around 200,000 people for their postal services. Task 1 The back ground to change is mainly because of the advancement of technologies, new methods implemented all over the organisations thereby demanding the present organisation to make a change. This will support the organisation to a greater extent. The motivation to change is done by looking at the current economy, the current organisational change, certain needs of the organisation and many more. Process dominated organisation: The process is totally dominated by the organisation thereby demanding the buercratic style of passive employees. This will cause major operation in-efficiencies and hence the motivation of work force will go down. The work force will then form a union and will lead a strike. This type of actions will de-value the name of the royal mail group. Hence we need the change in management here to be taken place in this organisation. Lagging of technology: In todays world, technology has increased to a greater extent. More advancement has created the organisations to change their way and style of process. Task 1 Alternative forms of organisational development Organisational development is said to be a planned intervention. There are many interventions developed to solve different problems. The plans and actions are designed for the change in the organisation. The organisation will implement different interventions in order to achieve the success. The main goal of the organisational structure is to achieve the goal with the change. There are different types of interventions. Many interventions are combined to produce different action plans. The whole actions include organisational training, analysis, conflict management, team management and organisational re-structuring. Types of interventions: Human resources the e.g. includes team building, consultation and recruitment process Technically more structural also can be defined as techno structural e.g. The management called total quality management, the re structure process and the design of work /process Management human resource e.g. 1. Diversity in management 2. Performance management 3. Appraisal of employees and many more Strategy process E.g. culture change involvement, transformation of organisation, self designing and management in strategy The training sensitivity: The main purpose of this training is to understand the behaviours aspect of themselves and to understand the others perception. Improvement can be done by getting the feedback Interpersonal conflict can be reduced Improves people to be more open, increases listening skills and others Efficiency of organisation and productivity is improved The facilator gives proper discussion and feedback thereby the facilator plays a very important role It has got broader scope but it lacks the specific goal. Feedback survey: Analysis of data done by different methods Information sharing is very important From all level of organisation, data collection of different levels has been done The participants and agents haven been transferred for the data usage. The solutions to the problem are only developed by the participants and they are very important to the organisation. Consultation of process: The process should be consulted as to make the process more effective Implementation of a goal for improving a particular process Problem solving method is increased and it the participants have been involved in it More steps/ pressure had been taken and given in order to reduce the inter personal problems. The consultation process determines the process that needs improvement. Interventions with teams: To improve the performance of teams working in the organisation Diagnosis of problems is done very quickly The main aim is to maintain and improve organisational process and team relationships Both the team member and the top management sit for a meeting to decide upon the diagnosis of problems. The whole groups and also divided into sub groups to collect different information for the organisational development is done. The guidance is given towards the achievements of goal The meeting is conducted only in need and also in regular intervals. Plans are prepared and what actions have to be taken is carefully observed and plan is handed over to the representatives. A Meeting to improve team building ( formal one ): The group of team building meeting is conducted at a far place The issues are discussed and the members are assigned with different responsibilities Action plan is prepared and given to the members The team building meeting is initated by managers with a supervision of external consultant. Team building techniques: Accepting things in a positive way and self awareness is very important Through repression and confrontation, the negative feeling can be resolved. They strongly believe that only hard work will take forward for their change required. Royal mail feels that it needs to develop proper relationship with the people and the stake holders. They are more focussed on delivering the incentives properly to the stake holders will identify them to accept the change. Stake holders should also be know the fact that what will be the output of this outcome. This development plan how it will help the organisations and how far it will benefit the stake holder .these analysis can be done by conducting audit reports on this process by external and internal factors. By analysing this system, the key stake holders will be in a proper well known state about the change in management. Task 2 To evaluate these systems and to involve the key stake holders in the organisation there are certain strategies to be followed It is explained as follows When there is a change, it is very important for the organisation to inform all of its sub-ordinates. In other words, getting people involved and communication are the main factors in evaluating and execution of change. Communication is a very important tool acting here as it not only involves listening but also the person can take the feedback and present it to the organisation thereby making them to take actions on it. To accept the change, there is always a fear for people which can be destroyed when there is a proper communication. The people will really get encouraged especially the stake holders if they know everything about the change with a proper communication. The royal mail should not think stake holders as obstacles but they need to explain them for the need in change, make them involve in it and make responsible. Royal mail should make the stake holders understand that change in development is done in order to develop the managers, responsible for decision making and oth er operational managements. The moment of sustainability is very important when there is a change in management. The stake holders and the royal mail group ltd should discuss about the resources provided for the change and the support for the change thereby reducing the reduction of enthusiasm in stake holders. The royal mail team will have a team for change management which will deal with difficulties, develop the managers for the change. Over the year there will be many practical workshops, Action learning training, modules skills classes. This will be taking place including e-coaching. Workshops ( Practical ): This work-shop will be a class based one and this will emphasize more on the safety issues diversity, and about the rapid growth of business ideas. This plan would be very ideal in the change in management system. Modules: Modules will be skill based development programme. This might include interaction with others, communication development, giving feedback, decision making, working in a collaborative manner and assertiveness etc. Action learning: The managers will go and meet with groups of other managers for a formal meeting to review the reports by time to time. This will enable action learning programme to be more efficient for the managers. The report will make the organisation to develop their progress in the any field the organisation demands. This action learning programme is implemented nowadays much in the corporate culture as to fill the communication gap and also to monitor the progress at regular time intervals. Coaching: A different type of coaching is being introduced by the managers which are called as external coaching. External teachers have been taking into the organisation and they help the managers or the individuals to improve their performance. These types of coaching help the managers to tackle many unresolved problems. E-learning: Nowadays e-learning is a very powerful a popular method to study and analyse different things. The information can be assessed online at any time irrespective of any problems. Overall, royal mail is looking at the organisation structure which can yield profit to them when the change has happened. My management plans shows that the organisation is expecting all the staffs to work together in this competitive challenging market and a chieve the targets. This development programme will make the life easier for the managers as they learn all the necessary things. Thus managers will do a great job in the change of management. The group wide management programme will also provide a great way to tackle the problems of the work force and to attain the sustainability of the organisation. The main important thing in this whole project is the capability of managers as he stands here as the back bone for the change in organisation. Thus overall, the manager plays a vital role in changing the change in management and culture change in the organisation.

Campbell in her volume of criticism, Shakespeare's Tragic Heroes: Slaves of Passion, explores the workings of Macbeth's mind as he plots the destruction of Banquo and son :    If the witches have spoken as truly to Banquo as to him, Macbeth sees that he wears a "fruitless crown" and carries a "barren sceptre" in his hand; he has indeed given peace and immortality to make the race of Banquo kings. A Homicide for Emily   Ã¢â‚¬Å"A Rose for Emily† is a short intriguing story written by William Faulkner.   This is because the way Emily’s character is portrayed, the mysterious death of Homer Barron, and the way Faulkner uses the narrator to tell the story.   Emily is portrayed as a woman who kept to herself throughout her whole life.   In her younger years her father had driven all her suitors away.   No man was good enough for Emily.   Emily’s solitude was especially evident after her father died and when her boyfriend Homer disappeared.   Her hair had turned an irony gray after her father died.   She had a black manservant throughout her whole life that went to the market, cooked and gardened for her.   During the end of her life the manservant’s visits were the only way that the townspeople knew that she was still alive.   After her father died Emily kept his body in her house.   A few days after Emily’s father’s death a couple of ladies came to give their condolences.   But Emily came to the door dressed in casual clothes and showed no signs of grief.   The townspeople were about to resort to law enforcement when she finally broke down and told them that her father was dead.   The townspeople did not believe she was crazy, even though they knew insanity ran in her family.   They thought Emily did this because they remembered how the father drove all the young men away.   Now she was a figure that could be pitied by the town, alone and penniless.   Eventually Emily met Homer, a Yankee who came into town to pave sidewalks during the summer of Emily’s father’s death.   They started seeing each other but Homer would rather hang out with the guys than hang out with Emily.   He was not the marrying type.   When Emily figured this out she bought some arsenic from a druggist.   The townspeople thought she was going to use the arsenic to kill herself.   However the next week they were sure homer and Emily would get married because Emily had been seen at the jeweler’s ordering a man’s toilet set in silver, with the letters H.B. on each piece.  Ã‚   Two days later she was seen buying a complete outfit of men’s clothing, including a nightshirt.   Homer was not seen for a week or so but he eventually came back into town and a neighbor saw the manservant let him in at the kitchen door.

Learning as a Process and as a Product Essay

When you ask people what do they think about learning? They only think in the final result. Isn’t to important to comprehend what that really means, and how big and important is the process. It is to simple to analyze what we have been learned before just making us the question If we really remember what we learned? But no everyone think in learning as a process. How do we learned that? If it was difficult? It’s the same learning as a process and as a product? Learning is the end product of some process. But when is learning a product? Learning as a product is when a person knows completely and totally that he/she dominates the knowledge, but also he/she have been qualify to do that â€Å"knowledge† what it means that he/she not just know the theory but also have the experience. The final product of the learning may show the capacity or level of each student and let the teacher know who needs more practice in a specific area. It depends on what they were working on, but it doesn’t mean that they are going to tell you or notice that the student really acquires the knowledge or the skill or if they need a more advanced or lower level to do the activities. Wich it means that learning as a product is the goal that the â€Å"learning process† must have. Learning as a process will be the behavior changes of certain experiences that people have had. Learning as a process goes further than learning as a product, because in one what it matters is the final result, and in another one what it matters is how was it? It’s not the same if I learned something just memorizing without practice. Besides If a learn something with theory and practice my final result it’s going to be better. It’s to important the process in which each person learned, because that will ensure you that you really understand and dominate what people taught you. That’s why everyone should recognize the difference between learning as a product and as a process.

Four Views of Hell Essay

These four professors argue the following views of hell: literal, metaphorical, purgatorial and conditional interpretations. This book peers inside the different theories of hell, each of their relation to the Bible and the evolution throughout time. Each chapter begins with that particular scholar’s view, followed by the rebuttal by his colleagues. Brief Summary The first chapter is written by, John Walvoord, and he begins by providing the foundation for the literal view of hell. He argues that hell is a position of perpetual punishment for those who are sinners in the Earth. He derives this view from native translations of the Bible using both the Old and New Testaments. Walvoord exactly takes the words from the Bible’s predictions and the absolute inerrancy of the Bible to suggest that this is the only way to view hell and eternal punishment. The chapter concludes with the author using the literal view to encourage the reader to help people avoid hell and the painfulness, by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The second chapter is written by William V. Crockett and he has taken the metaphorical view of hell, as read in the Bible and studied by scholars. His view of hell is comparable to the preceding author’s view; it only differs in how the punishment will be administered to the lost. The author has strong Calvinsitic ties, in that he believes that the fortellings of the punishment of hell is not to be taken literally, but as a metaphor. Crockett further states that the reality of hell is indescribable with words and the words that are contained in the Bible are only a breakdown that the human mind can absorb. The chapter concludes with the author stating his disdain for the conditional view. In the third chapter, Zachary J. Hayes takes on the subject of purgatory in the hell discussion. Purgatory in this book is a place where the dead will go, when they don’t quite make it to heaven, but are not bad enough for hell. Notably the author cannot find any Biblical references for purgatory, however he does state that the idea of purgatory evolved from a personal tradition that the Catholic Church adopted. Hayes does also note that he agrees with the metaphorical view of hell. In fourth chapter of the book is written by Dr. Clark Pinnock on the conditional view of hell. The conditional view is also referred to as annihilation, which means that hell will be a punishment of fire and lead to utter destruction of sinners. The actual destruction is the punishment, not the fire itself. Pinnock, uses diverse scriptures that support his claim of everlasting death and God’s moral values. Critical interaction with the author’s work The authors’ goal of this book is to give an educated as well as Biblical look at the different versions of hell. Although the word is talked about many times, but the authors’ aim is to give people all the information available on the subject. After which the reader can make personal decision about their own personal truth. The authors do achieve his goal of factually representing the literal, metaphorical, purgatorial and conditional interpretations of hell. Each author has not imposed his personal opinion or view of hell, but however stated the facts from Biblical and theological sources. Also, having each author evaluate the other authors’ arguments shows potential fallacies in each and gives the reader information to further reflect, evaluate and draw personal conclusions. The strengths of this book would be first, the book was written by students of the word who supported the majority of their arguments with scripture first and with theology second. In the literal view of hell the author comes directly from scriptures and uses those scriptures to plainly paint a picture that we have already been taught since childhood. In the metaphorical argument of hell the author uses scriptures that show support the claim that the descriptions of hell are only be used as metaphors and not to be interpreted literally. The chapter on the conditional view of hell is well written and covers the punishment and destruction parts of hell thoroughly. The first weakness that we encounter in this book is the fact that in the literal view of hell the author does not address the issue of why the scriptures must be taken literally, instead of figuratively. In the metaphorical view of hell the author never addresses the issue of what will actually be, nor does he attempt to answer questions that seem to violate the traits of God. The author in the conditional view of hell uses much of his writing to appeal to the human senses and not to justify those emotions or feelings with scriptures. In the view on purgatory the author spends very little to no time talking about hell, but the time that is between heaven and hell. Although purgatory is the median between heaven and hell the author seems to focus on how the soul can make it to heaven and not the latter. In my opinion I feel that this book would not be suitable for all lay persons to read. I feel that this book would be of best use in the hands of all persons who teach in the church. This book would not only give them basis for what they believe in, but it would also give them the opportunity to understand the contradictions in various beliefs. I feel that this book could be a useful tool to teach about sin. Although the authors have different views on what hell will actually be like, but it does hold one idea in agreement. Hell is a real place it, and sinners will be there. After some research there seem to be many other books that are written about hell. Those other books, after reading summaries, take a similar approach and try to inform the reader what hell is going to be like and what it is not going to be. Many of those books not only deal with hell, but they also address heaven as well with the same level of concern. Conclusion In conclusion the book â€Å"The four views of hell,† the author does achieve his goal. However I feel that the chapter on purgatory did not fit in the book, because the argument was not supported by scriptures and does not necessary classify itself as hell. The book does make thing a little bit about heaven, but more about sin. This book points the finger back to the place where we need not only teach about heaven, but teach also about hell. Many people get lost in the mind frame that there is only heaven or life on earth.
